One cub of ‘killer’ tigress T-2 trapped, forest teams hunt remaining three
Chandrapur: The Rapid Response Team (RRT) of Tadoba on Monday night captured one of the four sub-adult cubs of tigress T-2, responsible for the killing of four women in the Sindewahi forest range of Chandrapur.Range forest officer Anjali Sayankar said the 17-month-old cub was tranquilised and captured around 9.30pm in the Pawanpar area, where the mother tigress had been tranquilized on Saturday. The operation was carried out by RRT sharpshooter Ajay Marate under the supervision of veterinary officer Dr Ravikant Khobragade.Forest officials said the cubs had been spotted in camera traps on Sunday evening and again early Monday. However, dense vegetation and difficult terrain allowed them to evade capture for several hours, forcing authorities to intensify the operation.A 77-member team has been deployed in the forest, supported by drone surveillance, mobile sensor live cameras, and nearly 30 trap cameras to monitor the movement of the remaining cubs.Although baits have been set up across the forest to lure the tigress cubs, Sayankar said the captured cub was eventually tracked while searching for its mother. The hunt for the remaining three cubs continues on war footing.
