City police’s cyber cell gets new DCP

Nagpur: A day after suspending nine personnel from the cyber cell — including a senior inspector, an inspector, one assistant police inspector and six constables — CP Ravinder Singal on Tuesday posted DCP Deepak Aggarwal, an IPS officer of the 2021 batch as the head of the unit.After the suspensions of senior inspector Baliram Sutar and Inspector Yogesh Ghare, the CP has now posted inspectors Sudhir Borkute and Ramteke as new in-charges of the North and South zones.Senior officials claimed that the cyber cell is being revamped with immediate effect after an alleged botched probe. The suspension of cops comes amid a massive spike in digital arrest scams. Citizens, particularly elderly couples and retired personnel, have been duped of more than Rs10 crore in these scams.Fraudsters impersonating officials from police department, CBI or court use video calls to threaten victims with immediate arrest over fabricated charges like money laundering or cybercrimes, forcing them to transfer money.
