Mandya: DC Kumara, on Wednesday, assured that there is no drinking water shortage within the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) limits despite rising summer temperatures. He emphasised that precautionary steps have already been taken to prevent any potential scarcity in the coming days.
During a review meeting, Kumara said the city currently has 585 borewells, and officials have been instructed to regularly monitor both water quality and yield. At present, 12 wards receive a daily water supply, while 23 wards are supplied on alternate days. Efforts are underway to streamline the system and ensure daily water supply to all 35 wards in the near future, he said.
Highlighting the impact of summer heat, he appealed to residents to use water responsibly and avoid wastage. He also noted that steps have been initiated to upgrade the underground drainage (UGD) and drinking water infrastructure, with the CMC contributing 25% of the project cost. As of Wednesday, the water level at KRS was 92.1ft.
On civic infrastructure, Kumara said 126 commercial shop units have been constructed and inaugurated. Verification of documents submitted by previous occupants from 2022 is in progress, and allotments will be made on a priority basis after scrutiny.
Authorities have also been directed to clear unauthorised advertisements and billboards, while identifying designated spaces for legal displays.
Road development works under the CM's fund are progressing, with tenders already invited and execution expected to be completed swiftly. Plans are also in place to construct footpaths and dedicated cycle stands to improve urban mobility. The DC also appreciated the efforts of census staff for completing the first phase of house listing across 261 blocks ahead of schedule.
