AI-based GPS tracking to be introduced for GPs

Mysuru: The department of rural development and panchayat raj institutions has planned to introduce artificial Intelligence(AI)-based GPS tracking to monitor the activities of gram panchayats and their field staff.The introduction of this system will not only help the department to monitor activities, but also bring accountability, transparency and efficiency in GPs, which play a crucial role in village development and implementation of state and Union govt schemes.Nearly 6,000 gram panchayats, including 275 in Mysuru district, function under the department.As the department received complaints that most of the staff did not stay in the office, or remained outdoors under the pretext of being involved in outdoor office work, besides to put an end to habitual latecomers, the department is planning to introduce AI-based GPS tracking attendance system as this new technology helps the department to track the whereabouts of the GP staff.The adoption of this GPS tracking attendance system also helps to put an end to complaints like GP staff arriving late to the office and leaving the office during work hours, officials said.The introduction of this AI-powered GPS tracking attendance system ensures the GP staff work on time.The department is planning for AI-driven GPS tracking to be integrated with employee attendance, that also captures the photograph of the employees, provides real-time location data, and ensures transparency and accountability in attendance records.Even though the rural development and panchayat raj system introduced the biometric attendance system with fingerprint authentication at entry times, replacing the manual attendance register system, as the biometric attendance system also proved ineffective, affected by technical and server glitches, now the department of rural development and panchayat Raj is planning to introduce AI-based GPS tracking system for real-time monitoring of its field operations.Mysuru ZP deputy secretary M Krishnaraju said oral directions were given to the staff to prepare for transition to the GPS tracking attendance system.
