Mumbai: A 55-year-old man was arrested by Govt Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday on charges of molesting a 21-year-old college-going woman at Borivli railway station. Police said the accused is a pavement dweller near the station.
The incident occurred at 6.40 am on platform 3. She was waiting for a Churchgate-bound local to arrive when the accused, Prashant Chavan, came up from behind her and touched her inappropriately. The woman raised an alarm following which Chavan was apprehended. An FIR was registered on the basis of the woman's statement. Police are verifying if the accused has a prior crime record. The accused was charged with section 74 of the BNS (assault or criminal force to woman with the intent to outrage her modesty). If found guilty, he faces a sentence in prison for a term not less than one year, but which may extend to five years, and a fine.
