Amroha: A 34-year-old woman was found murdered inside her house in Paurara village under Rahra police station limits on Monday morning.
Police said Javatri Devi, who had been living alone for a long time, was found dead near a cot with her hands and feet tied, and a cloth stuffed into her mouth. The incident came to light when her neighbour, Rani, went to deliver milk but received no response. Villagers later peeped into the house from adjoining rooftops and alerted police.
Investigators suspect the murder could be linked to an ongoing property dispute. Javatri owned around five bighas of agricultural land transferred to her by her father, Kalyan Singh. Though she had remarried, she had no biological children and had adopted the son of her cousin,
Rakesh Kumar, police said.

Lakhan Singh said, “A murder case has been registered against Javatri’s nephew Himanshu and an unidentified person following a complaint lodged by Rakesh Kumar.”
According to the complaint, tension had been brewing within the family over the ownership of the land after Javatri adopted Rakesh’s son. Rakesh alleged that Himanshu harboured resentment over the property and conspired with another person to kill her.
“He alleged that the accused assaulted Javatri, struck her on the head, and strangled her during the intervening night of May 17–18,” police said, adding that the body has been sent for autopsy.
