Lucknow: The event ‘Kathak Sandhya’ was organised at Rai Umanath Bali auditorium on Wednesday showcasing elegant performances by young Kathak artistes.
Organised by Birju Maharaj Kathak Sansthan (BMKS) jointly with the department of culture, the programme featured “Yugal Nrityanjali”, a dance duet presentation by young Kathak artistes of Lucknow, celebrating the elegance of duet performances and the enduring legacy of the Lucknow gharana.
The evening opened with a performance by Govind Chaudhary and Roshni Prasad, who presented “Namami Shamisham”, a devotional tribute to Lord Shiva. They followed it with a rendition in Pancham Sawari taal and concluded with “Shri Radhe Rani”, portraying the playful bond of Radha and Krishna.
Young artistes, Anjul Bajpai and Piyush Pandey drew appreciation for “Damru Harkar Baje” and a technically polished teen taal presentation. Their Kathak composition “Badal Garaj Navghor” earned loud applause for its energetic rhythm.
The finale was presented by sisters Isha Ratan and Misha Ratan, who began with “Rudrashtakam” and concluded with “Badal Re Araj Garaj” in raag Megh, creating an emotional atmosphere in the auditorium.

Sanjay Singh, vice-chancellor of Dr Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University, and BMKS chairperson Kumkum Dhar Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
