Gas racket: 177 LPG cylinders seized, 1 held

Kolkata: A man, Dilip Mondal, was arrested for allegedly running an illegal gas refilling and storage racket in South 24 Parganas' Uttarbhag on Sunday. Cops have seized 177 LPG cylinders from him.Acting on a tip-off, officers of the district enforcement branch, along with Baruipur police, conducted a raid in the Kamra area along the Champahati-Uttarbhag Road. Police said they found a huge stockpile of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders at the spot. Investigators suspect that several of the cylinders may have been stolen, as the accused could not produce valid documents for the stock. Police also recovered equipment allegedly used for illegally refilling gas into autorickshaws and for storing LPG. Police said the arrested person would be produced before a court on Monday. tnn
