Kochi: A 67-year-old man was miraculously rescued by coastal police rescued him from Kochi backwaters on Monday morning.
The person was identified as Cyril, 67, from Puthanpally, Palluruthy. Police said his condition was stable.
According to police, passers-by spotted him floating in the water and thought that it was a dead body. Subsequently, coastal police were alerted. Police found that he was alive and rushed him to a hospital where he is recuperating.
Police sources said it was reported to the coastal police station that a body was seen floating in the water at Fort Kochi Customs Boat Jetty. Acting on this information, Fort Kochi coastal police station SI Singh C R, SI Usman, boat srank Sujesh, assistant boat commander Vijayan, boat driver Kargil, coastal warden Sreejith and lascar Rajesh conducted a search in the backwaters.
They brought him ashore, provided first aid, rushed him to the hospital and informed the nearest relatives.
