National Lok Adalat settles over 2lakh cases

Kanpur: As many as 2,44,068 cases were settled or disposed of and a sum of Rs12,44,87,155 was recovered or provided in the National Lok Adalat held here at Kanpur court premises on Saturday.The tribunals in the lok adalat settled 96 motor accident claims of around 300 cases identified. Principal court of matrimonial affairs disposed of seven cases. The chief judicial magistrate disposed of around 38,297 cases.The judicial officials of Kanpur Nagar disposed of 81,987 cases and realised/provided a sum of Rs7,97,92,712. Banks and telecom companies disposed of 629 cases at pre-litigation level and realised a sum of Rs4,17,77,896.Earlier in the morning, district judge Anmol Pal inaugurated the lok adalat. During the lok adalat, criminal compoundable cases, matrimonial disputes, civil suits, motor accident claims, revenue cases and arbitration matters — along with cases pending with banks and insurance companies — were resolved through conciliation and settlement at the pre-litigation stage, said nodal officer and additional sessions judge Rashmi Singh.Secretary, district legal services authority, Abhinav Tiwari said all judicial officials and office bearers of Kanpur Bar association and the lawyers association were present in the lok adalat. Proceedings for the disposal of pending stamp related cases were conducted at the lok adalat on Saturday. Four significant cases were resolved under district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, involving a determined amount of Rs84,40,874. All these cases pertained to residential land and development matters.The cases resolved included matters pertaining to the Sadar and Bilhaur tehsil areas. Settlement amounts were finalised as follows: Rs12,79,760 in the dispute involving the Shiv Sai Dham Society; Rs43,55,914 in the case of Purnima Dixit; Rs12,52,940 in the matter concerning Divesh Developers; and Rs15,52,260 in the dispute related to Madhav Infratech.The largest settlement at the lok adalat was achieved in a case involving Purnima Dixit. Meanwhile, in two cases pertaining to the Bilhaur tehsil area, the path for revenue recovery was cleared following the determination of stamp duty liabilities.
