Kanpur: The district administration has advised people to remain alert in view of the intense heat and rising temperatures.
District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said that taking heatwave lightly can be dangerous. Special care is essential during this season, particularly for children, the elderly, farmers and livestock.
Singh appealed to the public to avoid venturing out into the sun unnecessarily between 11am and 4pm. When stepping out, cover your head with a towel, cap or cloth, and wear light-coloured cotton clothing. Ensure that your body does not become dehydrated, and regularly consume water, lemon water, buttermilk and other fluids.
He said that if you experience dizziness, vomiting, high fever, excessive sweating or a feeling of weakness, do not dismiss it as normal, seek immediate medical assistance. Keep your homes well-ventilated, and do not allow children or the elderly to remain in the sun for extended periods.
The district magistrate appealed to farmers to avoid working in the fields during the afternoon hours. He advised them to ensure the availability of water, shade and ORS at the fields, and to carry out their work only during the morning or evening. In the event of sudden fatigue or dizziness, they should immediately stop working and rest in the shade.
Singh stated that caution was the most effective measure to prevent heatstroke. People should use an umbrella, a hat or a cloth towel when stepping out in the sun, and should refrain from consuming fried and heavy foods.
