Kanpur: Fazalganj police, on Tuesday, arrested iron trader

Saurabh Gupta of Meerut, and four of their friends for running an IPL betting racket.
A black SUV, cash worth Rs 1 lakh, 15 mobile phones, a laptop, and a register containing details of transactions worth crores was seized from their possession.

Archana Singh said, Fazalganj police spotted an SUV near Dada Nagar Container Yard, bearing a Meerut registration number, with five youths inside operating mobile phones and a laptop. Investigation revealed that all five were running an online IPL betting operation. They were identified as Abhishek Jain, an iron trader, and his brother-in-law Saurabh Gupta, Abhishek Mittal, Shubham Vijay and Ananya Vats.
The accused were active in Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Delhi, and conducted online betting while moving around in the vehicle. A master ID in the name of G Gama was found among the accused.
Fazalganj Inspector Dhananjay Kumar Pandey said, Saurabh, who runs a medical store, was the mastermind of the gang. Abhishek, an MBA, owns a tyre and tube shop, Shubham Vijay studied digital marketing and Ananya Vats has a BBA degree. An FIR was registered against all five accused under the Gambling Act and sections of the BNS.
