Cop exploits woman promising to marry her, suspended

Kanpur: A constable, Pawan Kanaujia, was suspended in Banda on charges of sexually exploiting a woman on the pretext of marriage and stealing her cash and jewellery, after the Hamirpur superintendent of police took action.The woman, from the Kalinjar police station area, submitted a complaint letter to the SP, alleging that contact was established in 2021 when Kanaujia was posted there, and that he held her captive and sexually exploited her for five years. She also alleged that despite multiple complaints, no action was taken.Subsequently, Banda SP Palash Bansal directed an inquiry into the woman’s complaint. After the investigation was completed, an FIR for rape was registered last Tuesday.Following the registration of the FIR, Hamirpur SP Mrigank Shekhar Pathak initiated a departmental inquiry against the constable and suspended him. Pathak stated that the constable was attached to the lines.
