Indore: Indore airport authority has decided to install ultrasonic sound systems and advanced sensors at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar airport to prevent bird hits and wildlife interference during flight operations.
Indore Municipal Corporation has also been directed to clear open waste along the Indore-Pithampur road and ensure regular removal of stray dogs from the airport vicinity. Special fire safety management protocols for the surrounding areas have also been mandated.
According to Indore divisional commissioner Sudam Khade, the instructions were issued during a meeting of airport environment management committee on Monday.
Key directives include installation of ultrasonic sound systems to deter birds/wildlife from the runway area and installation of sensors to provide early warnings regarding bird activity and potential fire hazards.
“The environment management committee’s rescue team, in coordination with municipal corporation, must conduct regular inspections of the airport’s airside area,” he said, adding that to further reduce risks, order has been given for immediate maintenance work within the airport perimeter and surrounding zones.
“This includes pruning large trees near the approach funnel runway, BSF areas, and the Aerodrome police station,” the divisional commissioner said.
Khade also highlighted the need for physical security, instructing officials to identify and repair any cracks or holes in the airport fencing immediately. Additionally, continuous monitoring was ordered for Bijasan Tekri area to prevent unauthorized animal movement.
