Two fire incidents reported in Indore’s industrial zones
Indore: Two fire incidents were reported in the city’s industrial zones on Saturday morning. The first outbreak occurred around 7 am at a plastic granule manufacturing factory located on Dhar Road. The fire escalated rapidly due to presence of highly inflammable raw material. Thick black smoke was visible from several kilometres. At the time of the incident, the facility was closed due to ‘amavasya.’According to factory operator Mohammad Javed Qureshi, the fire was triggered by a short circuit in a nearby regional electricity distribution point, which quickly spread to the main unit.Indore Municipal Corporation deployed seven fire tenders and specialized equipment including a firefighting robot and earth moving machines to douse the fire.Emergency teams used earthmovers to dismantle factory’s tin roofing to access the core of the fire. “Due to lack of immediate water sources on site, over 45 water tankers were brought in from neighbouring areas, with local residents supplying water from private tubewells,” deputy fire officer Ajay Kumar said.Firefighters used a combination of water and chemical foam to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to an adjacent herbal products factory.
The second fire incident was reported at a cotton scrap warehouse in F-Sector of Sanwer Road industrial area. Firefighters were deployed at the warehouse to control the blaze.“No casualties or injuries were reported from either location, though structural damage and property loss were estimated to be extensive,” IMC commissioner Kshitij Singhal said. The local administration has initiated an investigation to find exact causes of the fires and assess the units’ adherence to industrial safety norms.
