Indore: Three labourers from Chhattisgarh were killed early Tuesday morning after they got crushed by a support vehicle (truck-mounted compressors) for a boring machine in the Pithampur Sector 1 area. The accident occurred around 4 am in Gavla village of Dhar district.
The victims were part of a team drilling borewells on the farms of Subhash Chauhan and Rudan Singh Solanki. Exhausted after completing their work, the labourers laid down to rest underneath the vehicle accompanying the boring machine. As the driver of the vehicle, unaware of the fact that the men were sleeping underneath, reversed it, the rear tyres crushed the three workers, killing them instantly.
“The victims have been identified as Ramcharan (56), Bhanupratap (19) and Arvind (22), residents of Chhattisgarh,” Pithampur Sector-1 police station sub-inspector Dashrath Singh Mandloi said, adding that following a complaint filed by eyewitness Ramesh Ekka, a case was registered against the driver.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the driver acted with negligence by reversing the heavy vehicle in the dark without checking the surroundings.
The police have seized the vehicle and arrested the driver. The bodies were sent for postmortem examinations.
