Night temp rises to 26°C, Indore continues to reel under hot & humid conditions

Indore: A brief dip in day temperature did little to change the mood of a sweltering Indore where residents preferred to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours on Sunday.Harsh sunlight, hot winds and rising humidity level left residents struggling through the day, especially during afternoon hours when roads and public places witnessed comparatively lower movement.Met department said the maximum temperature in Indore climbed to 42.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while the minimum temperature rose further to 26 degrees Celsius.The impact of the heat was clearly visible between 12 noon and 4 pm, with many residents preferring to stay indoors to avoid exposure to the scorching conditions. Though temperature dipped marginally, the combination of strong sunlight and humidity has prevented any significant relief from the prevailing heatwave-like conditions.Weather experts said the maximum temperature is likely to remain around 41 degrees Celsius for the next two to three days. The administration and health experts have advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during peak afternoon hours and remain hydrated.Amid the continuing heat, several social organisations in the city have also started relief efforts by distributing drinking water, buttermilk and other cooling items at public places for commuters and labourers.The weather department has further warned that severe heat conditions are expected to persist across most parts of Madhya Pradesh till May 19. In the Indore division too, the effect of the heat is likely to remain intense between noon and 3 pm.Met officials have expressed hope of an early arrival of the southwest monsoon in Madhya Pradesh this year. Experts estimate that the monsoon may enter the state by June 12, slightly ahead of its usual schedule, raising expectations of relief from the prolonged summer heat.
