Khargone: Riding horse carts, e-rickshaws and electric bikes, chemists in Khargone staged a protest on Wednesday as part of a nationwide strike against online sale of medicines.
Traders, under the banner of chemists association, marched to collectorate on traditional horse carts (tangas) and submitted a memorandum demanding a ban on online medicine trade and tighter regulation of e-pharmacy platforms. The protesters said that the use of non-fuel transport was also aimed at supporting Prime Minister’s appeal for fuel conservation.
Around 600 medical shop owners across the district participated in the one-day strike called by All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists. Most medicine stores in the district remained shut throughout the day, though pharmacies attached to hospitals and nursing homes continued emergency services.
Barwani district also witnessed the closure of around 400 medical stores as part of nationwide strike.
