Google Gemini app is getting a makeover. At its annual
Google I/O event, the company has announced 6 key features coming to the app across Android, iOS and macOS as it aims to change how people use smartphones and computers. These upgrades aimed at turning the chatbot into a proactive, 24/7 digital assistant.
Supercharging Gemini app with Gemini 3.5 Flash
Leading the charge is Gemini 3.5 Flash, the first model of Google’s next-generation AI family Gemini 3.5. Built for speed and efficiency, this new engine is designed to handle complex everyday tasks like heavy coding and real-time problem-solving with lightning-fast response times, Google says.
Google Spark: 24/7 agent
Alongside the speed boost, Google introduced Gemini Spark, a round-the-clock personal AI agent. Unlike regular chatbots that wait for you to type a question, Spark works quietly in the background under your direction. It can search monthly bank statements to flag hidden subscription fees or check your emails to compile a consolidated daily update for your family.
“Gemini Spark runs on Gemini 3.5 and uses the Antigravity harness. It’s deeply integrated with the Workspace tools you rely on daily, like Gmail, Docs, Slides and more.
Even better, because it is a cloud-based agent, Spark keeps working in the background even when you close your laptop or lock your phone,” Google said.
Beyond these two major updates, Google confirmed four other powerhouse features coming to the Gemini app:
Gemini app gets a redesign: Neural expressive
A completely redesigned visual look for Gemini. The interface gets fluid animations, vibrant colours and real-time tailored responses that feature interactive timelines and dynamic graphics instead of long blocks of text.
“Neural Expressive is rolling out globally today across the web, Android and iOS for everyone,” the company said.
According to Google, the company has re-engineered the mic “so you can tap and talk through a complex idea at your own pace without getting cut off mid-thought. And soon, we’ll start offering regional dialects, allowing you to choose a voice that truly resonates with you.”
Gemini Omni
A creative tool built for video lovers. It lets users turn simple text or image prompts into high-quality cinematic videos, allowing users to edit footage or swap backgrounds through natural conversation.
“Just upload footage from your camera roll, apply built-in templates with a single tap and create polished content without expensive equipment or specialised technical jargon. You can even drop yourself directly into the action by creating a custom AI avatar that looks and sounds exactly like you,” Google said. Gemini Omni begins rolling out to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers worldwide.
Daily Brief
A smart morning assistant that scans your connected Google Workspace apps like Gmail and Calendar. It automatically organises users’ urgent updates and prioritises schedule to help start the day on the right foot.
“It goes far beyond a simple summary. Daily Brief actively organizes and prioritizes based on your specific goals, even suggesting immediate next steps. You can easily steer it by giving responses a quick thumbs up or down over time,” Google said.
Dedicated macOS app
Mac users are getting a major desktop upgrade. The new desktop app will integrate Spark to automate workflows across local files, alongside advanced voice features that can turn casual speech into precise document drafts.
