More trouble for IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon
HYDERABAD: In further trouble for senior IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, the home department has asked the general administration department (GAD) to pay back the Police Welfare Fund that paid Rs 4 lakh as compensation towards the end of 2010 to a couple who were assaulted by the senior cop who was then IG, Special Protection Force.Haritha,the victim, and her husband, had filed a complaint against Tejdeep at Begumpetpolice station and also moved the human rights commission. Holding her guilty,the NHRC had ruled that the couple should be paid Rs 4 lakh as compensation andthat its order should be complied with within 24 hours.A rattledhome department then paid the couple the compensation from the money availablewith the Police Welfare Fund. Now, however, the police fund is demanding thatits money be returned to it. But when the home department sought the same fromthe GAD, the latter is maintaining that it is not the responsibility of thestate to pay the compensation and that the same should be extracted from the IPSofficer in question. However, the GAD has sought the finance department'sopinion on the matter.Meanwhile, it is learnt that the CID, whom theNHRC had directed to prosecute Tejdeep for the assault on the couple, is said tobe all ready to send back the file to chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy with thehint that the case against her stands and that he should accord sanction forprosecuting Tejdeep.
After the CID had sent the file for theclearance of the CM the first time around, Tejdeep met the chief minister andpresented her point of view in the matter. Based on the meeting, Kiran Kumar hadtold the CID to review the case, sources said."We have askedpermission of the CM for prosecution of the police officer as it is mandatory inthe case of all India service officers. If he feels that the investigation wasnot properly done, he can ask some other investigation agency like SIT, CBI or acommission to look into the matter. How can we re-examine the case and come outwith a different conclusion?," pointed a senior official in thedepartment.
