Belagavi: In a bid to maintain public peace and strengthen law and order, the Belagavi City police, through their anti stabbing squad, conducted a special operation on Thursday and arrested two persons in separate incidents for illegally carrying deadly weapons in public places.
In the first incident, the squad apprehended a 27-year-old man who was found roaming with a sharp knife concealed in the pocket of his half pants at Kakatiwesh in the city. The accused has been identified as Shashikant Arakeri. Police personnel detected the weapon during routine checks in Konawal Galli and immediately took him into custody. A case has been registered at Khadebazar police station.
In another incident, police arrested a man for allegedly brandishing a sword in the Malmaruti police station limits. The accused, identified as Amol Wafe, 30, was taken into custody at Jyotirling Galli in Kanabargi. Acting on credible information that he was standing in a public place holding a sword with the intention of committing a criminal act, the Malmaruti police conducted a swift raid.
The action taken against those illegally carrying deadly weapons has drawn public appreciation, particularly under the guidance of city police commissioner Bhushan Borase. The commissioner reiterated that the police will continue strict enforcement and warned that anyone found carrying illegal weapons in public places will face action without any leniency.
Police officials said intensified checks and surveillance will continue across the city to deter such incidents and ensure the safety of citizens.
