Silchar: A man and a woman hailing from Manipur were arrested from a rented accommodation in Silchar’s Ramnagar area on Wednesday evening after police recovered a cache of arms and explosives from their possession.Acting on a case registered at the Lakhipur police station, a police team conducted a raid at the residence of one Akram Ali on FCI Road. During the operation, security personnel arrested Leishram Tiken Meitei and Monalisha Chanu. Both are reportedly residents of Churachandpur, Manipur.A search of the premises led to the recovery of an Italian-made 9mm pistol, five live rounds of ammunition, and a Chinese hand grenade. Additionally, police seized several suspicious documents, including multiple identity cards and a mobile phone.According to sources, the duo had been living in the Ramnagar locality as tenants, having identified themselves to the landlord and neighbours as traders. When questioned about the illegal weapons, the male detainee reportedly claimed that he had been displaced from Churachandpur and kept the pistol and grenade for “safety” purposes.
