Pema Khandu on Sunday handed over an ex gratia amount of Rs 50 lakh to the family members of late Indian Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang in recognition of his extraordinary bravery.
Khandu, who arrived at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district on Sunday evening, handed over the amount at an event where Corporal Hailyang's wife Charo Kamhua Tage, his father and other family members were present.
Corporal Hailyang, from Tajang village, was among the 26 victims of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.
In a social media post, the chief minister wrote, "He (late Hailyang) selflessly guided tourists to safety, demonstrating courage and dedication beyond measure."
Expressing respect to the brave soldier, Khandu said, "We remember his courage and offer our heartfelt respect to his wife, father, and entire family, who have borne this immense loss with dignity and strength."
State agriculture minister Gabriel D Wangsu, chief secretary Manish Kumar Gupta and senior district officials were present at the event.
