Agartala: Five persons have been arrested in Tripura for allegedly operating a fraudulent scheme involving high-yield promises and misappropriation of public funds. The arrests took place after a video surfaced on social media showing a woman police constable displaying a large sum of money at her home at Bhatgouri in Dhalai district. The video, captured on a mobile device and widely circulated, prompted police action. DIG (Northern Range) Rati Ranjan Debnath, who is leading the probe, said the footage showed police constable Nanda Rani Debbarma, wife of constable Pijush Debbarma, revealing cash bundles at her home.Following the video evidence, police recovered approximately Rs 3 crore in unaccounted cash from Pijush’s home. Those arrested were constable Pijush, his wife Nanda, fellow constable Menaka Debbarma, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan Ajit Debbarma, and health department employee Sanjana Debbarma.Pijush has been suspended from duty and the suspension process for others is underway.Investigators have also identified several other police personnel and TSR soldiers associated with the case.Authorities suspect the involvement of the arrested individuals in a drug trafficking network connected to Myanmar, with several others believed to be linked to the case.
