Guwahati: Assam Advocate General (AG) Devajit Saikia said on Thursday that he has resigned from his post following the end of the present govt’s term.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tendered his resignation on Wednesday to governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya who asked him to continue as the head of the caretaker govt until the next govt is sworn in. Consequently, the resignation of the advocate general and all others holding constitutional posts in the previous govt becomes inevitable.“'Keeping and upholding the high tradition and constitutional practice, I have tendered my resignation yesterday from the Office of the Advocate General, Assam, upon completion of my tenure of nearly five years and consequent to the end of the present Government's term with Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma,'' Saikia said in a post on X.Saikia said it has been a matter of immense honour and privilege to serve the state in the constitutional office of Advocate General.“I remain deeply grateful to the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Council of Ministers, the legal fraternity including my colleagues, lawyers, officers of the government and all concerned for the trust, cooperation and support extended to me throughout my tenure,” he added.
