Gurgaon: A 26-year-old man died after allegedly consuming poison near a petrol pump along the
Dwarka Expressway late Wednesday night, police said.
The deceased, Pradeep Mahlawat of Gadoli Kalan village, had earlier worked at the petrol pump before leaving the job around six months ago. He was helping his family with farming activities since then.
According to police, Mahlawat visited the petrol pump on Wednesday night and spent some time with former colleagues. He later parked his motorcycle there and told them he was going for a walk. Shortly afterwards, he was found unconscious in a nearby field.
Around midnight, Mahlawat reportedly called his father, who could not answer the phone. When the father called back a few minutes later, he told him that he had consumed sulfa, a poisonous substance commonly used in agriculture, and was feeling unwell.
His family rushed him to a nearby govt hospital, from where he was referred to a higher medical centre due to his critical condition. He was later shifted to a private hospital, where he died during treatment on Thursday morning.
Police said no foul play has surfaced in the preliminary investigation. Proceedings under Section 194 of the BNSS have been initiated.
“The post-mortem examination has been conducted and statements of family members and friends are being recorded to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident,” an investigating officer said.
