Man arrested for raping and impregnating girl near Erode

ERODE: The Gobichettipalayam all women police arrested a man on charges of raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl. Police arrested Mani, 50, of Kolappalur in Gobichettipalayam based on a complaint filed by a social worker attached to the district child protection office in Erode. According to the complaint, Mani, who worked in a two-wheeler workshop, sexually assaulted the Class X girl when she visited her grandmother’s house. He threatened to kill her father if she told her parents about it. In April, the girl fell ill. Doctors in Gobichettipalayam examined her and said she was eight months pregnant. On April 26, she was admitted to Government Medical College Hospital in Perundurai. On being informed by the hospital authorities, Child Welfare Committee social worker Devaki met the girl on May 7 and inquired about the incident. After the inquiry, the social worker filed a police complaint. The arrested man has been remanded in judicial custody.
