IMD issues Orange alert in Uttarakhand for May 12-13; Char Dham pilgrims advised caution
DEHRADUN: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for May 12 and 13 in Uttarakhand, warning of rainfall and adverse weather conditions in several parts of the state, particularly in the hilly regions, prompting authorities to advise Char Dham pilgrims and tourists to exercise caution while travelling. In view of the alert, Garhwal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey appealed to devotees undertaking the Char Dham Yatra to stay updated with the latest weather information and carefully plan their journey. The Commissioner urged pilgrims to exercise extra vigilance while travelling during the alert period, considering the weather sensitivity in the mountainous areas. He advised that, if possible, pilgrims should undertake the journey after weather conditions improve for safer and more convenient travel.Pandey also requested devotees and tourists to strictly follow all guidelines and advisories issued by the administration and local authorities during the pilgrimage to ensure a safe and smooth travel experience. The Char Dham Yatra, which includes pilgrimages to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, witnesses a large influx of devotees every year.(With agency inputs)
