Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh govt has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to promote climate-resilient, inclusive and sustainable development across the state.
The agreement was signed on Thursday in the presence of chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu by environment secretary Sushil Singla and UNDP resident representative Angela Lusigi.
The partnership will focus on areas such as circular economy, waste management, electric mobility for waste collection, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration and sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
It also aims to strengthen ecological governance and ensure the participation of women, marginalised groups and informal workers in development initiatives.
Sukhu said the collaboration would help integrate global best practices with local solutions, support green livelihoods and accelerate progress towards sustainable development goals.
He also launched the ‘Safai Mitra Scheme' to empower informal waste management workers and enhance their dignity, safety and socio-economic well-being.
