In 6 years, Haryana cops arrested 6,256 drug traffickers, seized assets worth Rs 72cr
Chandigarh: Haryana police claimed to have intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking, arresting 6,256 persons in 2,353 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act involving commercial quantities of narcotics over the past six years. The police also seized, froze or attached properties worth Rs 72.7 crore allegedly acquired through the illegal drug trade.The figures were disclosed by ADGP Sanjay Kumar, head of the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau, during a high-level review meeting chaired by DGP Ajay Singhal on Friday. According to Kumar, Haryana police registered 1,876 FIRs related to commercial quantities of narcotics between 2021 and 2025 and arrested 3,151 accused from within the state. To curb organised drug trafficking networks, preventive detention action under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act was taken against 156 habitual offenders.The police also initiated property attachment proceedings against 432 individuals allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade. In addition, authorities monitored Haryana residents arrested in NDPS cases outside the state.
Between 2021 and 2025, details of 321 such accused were shared with district police units for verification and surveillance.Officials informed the meeting that 156 detention orders were issued under the PIT-NDPS Act, 1988, to prevent repeat offenders from continuing narcotics-related activities. IGP Pankaj Nain also presented the framework for the upcoming "Drug-Free Haryana Campaign", which will focus on awareness generation and de-addiction initiatives across the state. Reaffirming the force's commitment to eliminating drug abuse, DGP Ajay Singhal stressed the need for coordinated action against interstate drug syndicates, illegal financial transactions and assets generated through narcotics trafficking.
