Fazilka: The Rajasthan police have busted a cross-border smuggling network by arresting two youths from Punjab's Fazilka district with 1.5kg heroin and opium. The Rajasthan cops apprehended both of them following a 10-km chase.
The accused went to take delivery of drugs that had arrived from Pakistan. The police had set up a roadblock along their route. The accused have been identified as 27-year-old Kulwinder Singh and 23-year-old Robin Singh of Mahatam Nagar village in the district. They were arrested by Sameja Kothi police.
Sameja Kothi station house officer (SHO) Krishan Kumar said the smugglers were heading towards Bharatmala Road when we received information about them.
"Upon receiving this update, we blocked their path approximately 10km ahead, at the 75 NP turn, by positioning tractor-trailers across the road. A white car was spotted approaching from the direction of Anupgarh. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the smugglers accelerated and sped away," the SHO said.
He added that on spotting the tractor-trailer ahead, the smugglers attempted to apply brakes and, in the process, their car collided with the trailer. "As soon as the car stopped, both occupants ran in different directions. The police gave them a chase and nabbed them with the assistance of the villagers," Kumar said.
