Rourkela: Five visually-impaired students from economically disadvantaged families in Sundargarh district have delivered an impressive performance in this year’s Class X board examination. Three of them secured B-1 grades and two B-2 grades.
The students, all associated with Deokaran Vidyapeeth in Lathikata block, are Sunita Bhokta (405, B-2), Abdil Kujur (450, B-1), Sanjay Singh (432, B-1), Shradhanjali Purti (405, B-2) and Ranjan Ganju (442, B-1). While Sunita, Abdil and Shradhanjali are blind from birth, Sanjay lost his eyesight in Class VI. All five are inmates of the residential hostel at Radhakrishna Drustihina Vidyalaya.
Their achievement is notable given their socio-economic background, as all come from families of daily-wage earners. Among them, Abdil, Sanjay and Ranjan secured B-1 grades, while Sunita and Shradhanjali obtained B-2.
The students completed their schooling up to Class VIII at Radhakrishna Drustihina Vidyalaya, which is recognised till that level. They appeared for the matriculation examination through Deokaran Vidyapeeth.
Principal Gopinath Nayak praised their performance, saying the results reflect resilience and aspiration. “These achievements are not merely academic results but statements of determination. Despite the odds, they are nurturing dreams of higher education,” he said. Nayak added that efforts are underway to facilitate their admission into +2 Arts colleges in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
