CG completes 60% Census 2027 house-listing work, GPM dist tops state rankings
Raipur: Chhattisgarh has completed over 60 percent of the house-listing work for Census 2027, with 29,602 of the total 48,742 House Listing Blocks (HLBs) verified through digital monitoring and field-level checks, officials said on Sunday.
Tribal-dominated Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi emerged as the top-performing district with 100 percent completion, while major urban centres such as Raipur, Bhilai and Raigarh lagged behind.
Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai reviewed the progress and directed officials to speed up work in municipal corporation areas through intensified field monitoring.
“Sushasan and inclusive development can reach every poor household only through accurate census data. The figures generated during Census 2027 will form the basis for future development planning, welfare schemes and policy decisions in Chhattisgarh,” the CM said.
The state govt said the large-scale exercise is being carried out in mission mode across all districts and urban local bodies using digital technology and coordinated administrative monitoring.
GPM achieves 100% completion
Tribal-dominated Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district has emerged as the top performer in Chhattisgarh’s Census 2027 house-listing exercise by completing all 528 House Listing Blocks (HLBs) with zero pendency.
Jashpur followed with 99.87 percent completion, while Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki achieved 99.84 percent progress. Other districts nearing full completion include Bemetara at 97.8 percent and Mungeli at 96.52 percent.
GPM Collector Santosh Kumar Devangan credited the achievement to micro-planning, daily digital monitoring and coordinated work by enumerators and supervisors. He said the district completed the exercise after the final data was synced on the portal at midnight on May 17 despite geographical and tribal-area challenges.
In contrast, progress in major urban centres and municipal corporations has remained slow. Raigarh Municipal Corporation recorded the lowest progress at 4.65 percent, while Bhilai reported 7.84 percent completion and Risali 8.33 percent.
In the state capital Raipur, only 203 of the 1,964 identified HLBs have been completed, accounting for 10.34 percent of the target.
Officials said the number of “HLBs Not Started” has dropped to nearly zero across the state, except for one pending block in Kabirdham district, indicating active field-level implementation.
The state govt has directed municipal commissioners and district collectors to appoint special nodal officers to speed up pending work in urban areas.
