Prayagraj: Members of the Bengali Social and Cultural Association marked the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Guru Rabindranath Tagore with floral tributes and cultural programmes at Tagore Town crossing on Saturday.The celebrations began early morning with a Prabhat Pheri at 6am near the statue of Tagore, where members of Swarbitan Music Society, Surshree, Purnima Sammelani and students of Jagat Taran Inter College participated.It was followed by group performances of Rabindra Sangeet, after which representatives of various educational, cultural and social organisations offered garlands to the statue of the Nobel laureate.In the evening, a vibrant cultural programme titled “Robi Pronam” was organised at Jagat Taran Auditorium (Rabindralay) under the joint aegis of the Bengali Social and Cultural Association and Jagat Taran Education Society. The programme, presented by cultural group Sur-O-Shree under the direction of Swapan Samaddar, focused on themes of love, nature and creativity drawn from Tagore’s poetry and songs.The event opened with Rabindra Sangeet performances by students of Jagat Taran Golden Jubilee School, guided by Uma Banerjee.
Several well-known compositions were presented, including “Anando Loke Mongola Loke,” “Prano Bhoriye Trisha Bhoriye,” and other selected works of Tagore.Prof Ashim Mukherjee of Allahabad University highlighted Tagore’s literary and artistic legacy, noting his mastery of both Bengali and English literature and his unique distinction of composing the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.Students presented soulful renditions of Tagore’s compositions, including “Ekla Chalo Re,” “Bodhu Kon Alo Laglo Chokhe,” and “Borisho Dhora Majhe Shantir Bari,” leaving the audience deeply moved.
