PRAYAGRAJ: A major fire broke out at Vitthal Hotel on MG marg under the limits of Civil Lines police station on Monday gutting properties worth lakhs of rupees.
Upon being alerted, joint teams of police, fire department and administration rushed the spot and carried out firefighting operations.
At least eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames after a hardwork of three hours.
The joint team also managed to rescue at least 12 persons including hotel staff who were trapped inside the hotel and nearby building.
Although the exact reason behind the fire was yet to be ascertained, fire from a transformer installed nearby the hotel caused the fire.
The incident created panic among traders and others who rushed the spot to assist firemen and police.
