Youth late to open Ahmedabad PG facility door killed by roommates
AHMEDABAD: A 25-year-old man living in a PG accommodation in Vejalpur was allegedly stabbed to death by two co-residents after a dispute over opening the room door, taking the city’s murder tally to five in the past four days.
The victim, identified as Hiren Solanki, originally from Gadu village in Junagadh district, had been staying at Awas PG in Satyanarayan Society, Vejalpur, for the last three months while working in Ahmedabad. His father, Menasibhai Solanki, filed a complaint with Vejalpur police on Tuesday.
According to the FIR, the victim’s father was at work in Junagadh on Tuesday morning when he got a call from the PG informing him that Hiren had been involved in a scuffle with other residents. While he and his younger son were heading to Ahmedabad, they were told to reach Sola Civil Hospital.
Police said the incident occurred around 7.30am on Tuesday. The complaint states that two PG inmates, identified as Mahavirsinh Jadav and Ranvirsinh Sindhav, allegedly got into a heated argument with Hiren over opening the room door. The verbal spat soon escalated, and the accused allegedly abused and assaulted Hiren before Mahavirsinh reportedly stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife.
Hiren was rushed to the hospital but died during treatment. Family members told police that the accused had earlier also picked up quarrels with Hiren over similar issues inside the PG premises.
After postmortem at Sola Civil Hospital, the body was handed over to the family for final rites at their native village. Vejalpur police registered a murder case and began further investigation to trace and arrest the accused.
Inspector R M Chauhan of Vejalpur police said both accused have been arrested in the case. “The accused were staying in the PG for only eight days and had a couple of scuffles with the victim. Last night, there was a dispute over opening the room door as Hiren was slightly delayed. This led to a verbal altercation followed by a physical fight in which Hiren was fatally stabbed,” said Chauhan.
