NDA, BJP, and UDF lead as counting progresses across four states
Counting is underway across four state assemblies and the early picture shows contrasting contests in each. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA has a tally of 97 seats, with 28 declared wins and leads in 69 more, crossing the majority mark if those leads hold. The Congress-led grouping is trailing with a tally of 22 seats. In Tamil Nadu, the 234-seat assembly requires 118 seats for a majority. SPA holds a tally of 60 seats, with 7 won and 53 leading, while NDA is trailing with a tally of 55 seats. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively lead with a tally of 115, still 3 seats short of the majority mark. West Bengal, the largest of the four contests with 294 seats and a majority mark of 148, sees BJP leading in enough seats to cross that threshold, carrying a tally of 179 with 11 declared wins and leads in 168 constituencies. TMC is trailing with a tally of 106, having won 2 and leading in 104. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively account for a tally of 8 in West Bengal. In Kerala, where 71 seats decide a majority in the 140-seat house, UDF has a tally of 87 with 68 seats already won and leads in 19 more, crossing the majority mark if those leads hold. LDF is trailing with a tally of 36, comprising 30 wins and 6 leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 17 seats in Kerala.
