NDA, BJP, UDF lead as counting advances across four states
Votes are being counted across four state assemblies and the early picture shows competitive races in most places. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA has won 28 seats and is leading in 69 more, giving it a tally of 97, which already crosses the majority mark if those leads hold. The Congress-led alliance is leading in 22 seats with no wins declared yet, and candidates from other parties or independent candidates cumulatively lead in 7 seats in Assam. In Tamil Nadu, the majority mark stands at 118 in a 234-seat assembly. SPA has won 7 seats and is leading in 53, putting its tally at 60, while NDA is leading in 55 seats with no wins declared, giving it a tally of 55. Candidates from other parties or independent candidates cumulatively lead in 115 seats in Tamil Nadu, still 3 short of the majority mark. In West Bengal, BJP has won 11 seats and is leading in 168, for a tally of 179 in the 294-seat house where 148 are needed for a majority, meaning its tally has crossed that mark. TMC has won 2 and is leading in 104, with a tally of 106. Candidates from other parties or independent candidates cumulatively lead in 8 seats in West Bengal. In Kerala, where the majority mark is 71 in a 140-seat house, UDF has won 68 seats and is leading in 19 more, giving it a tally of 87 that crosses the majority mark if those leads hold.
