Ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, AIMIM has joined hands with Humayun Kabir’s AJUP, fielding candidates in 182 constituencies. The partnership includes Poonam Begum contesting from Bhabanipur against TMC Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Analysts believe this alliance could impact the minority vote in Muslim-dominated seats. The elections, scheduled in two phases on April 23 and 29, will be closely watched for shifts in West Bengal’s political landscape.

Security alert in Punjab after Jalandhar and Amritsar blast incidents

In Jalandhar, a parked scooter exploded near the Border Security Force (BSF) Headquarters in a high-security zone late last night. The area was immediately cordoned off and police launched a detailed investigation. Sources suggest that a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team is en route to assist in the probe. In another incident, a blast was reported around 10:50 PM in the Khassa cantonment area of Amritsar.
