Swami Vivekananda was a Hindu monk from India and renowned spiritual leader. He played a major role in introducing the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century.

He carried on the free-thinking philosophy of his guru, Ramakrishna Paramhansa forward into a new paradigm.

Vivekananda’s teachings about brotherhood and self-awakening have become goals of self-improvement especially for the youth of India. For this very reason, his birthday, January 12, is celebrated as the National Youth Day in India.
