Nintendo extends digital discount strategy to the US with Star Fox: Here’s how much the game will cost
Star Fox, which is set to come out soon, will be part of Nintendo's digital-first pricing structure in America, as the video game will cost less as a download than the physical version. This is consistent with what the company has been doing recently with games on the Switch 2 console.According to the company, the digital version of Star Fox will be available for $49.99 on the Nintendo eShop in the US, while the physical version will retail at $59.99.The pricing model makes Star Fox the second Switch 2 title in the US to follow this structure, after Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Nintendo of America had announced earlier this year that it would begin offering different pricing for digital and physical versions of select first-party titles. The strategy has already been implemented in other regions. In the UK, the digital version of Star Fox is priced at £41.99, while the physical edition is expected to cost around £49.99. In Japan, the digital version costs ¥5,480, compared to ¥6,480 for the physical copy.

What to expect from Nintendo's Star Fox remake

The game was revealed during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation and is scheduled to launch on June 25. It is a remake of the Nintendo 64-era Star Fox title, featuring updated visuals while retaining the original stage layouts.
“Star Fox is a cinematic take on the Star Fox 64 game, featuring newly overhauled character designs, freshly revamped looks for each stage, plus detailed cutscenes, fully voiced dialogue, and a sweeping orchestral soundtrack,” Nintendo said in its official description. Some of the upgrades will involve character design, more story lines, and challenge modes, among others, with the inclusion of Fox’s father into the story, along with a challenge mode and online play. Some of the updates will include support for the Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse and Nintendo 64 compatibility on Switch Online.Nintendo’s pricing adjustment indicates a broader shift in how the company positions digital purchases, as it continues to test different strategies across regions and platforms.
