Himanta Biswa Sarma Reaffirms UCC Promise, Says Assam Govt Will Implement Manifesto Commitments

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reiterated the BJP government’s commitment to implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. Speaking in Guwahati, Sarma said the UCC remains a key part of the party manifesto and asserted that the government would try to implement “every word” mentioned in it.The statement has once again sparked political debate around the Uniform Civil Code, a proposal that seeks a common set of personal laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption for all citizens irrespective of religion.
