The Dam that quenches Mumbai's thirst leaves this village thirsty

In Maharashtra’s Palghar district, women from Dapurmal village walk 8 kilometers every day, much of it uphill, just to fetch a single pot of water. Ironically, the only available source is the Upper Vaitarna Dam that supplies water to Mumbai, just 122 kilometers away. With no roads, pipelines or taps, and their own well running dry this summer, the villagers continue to battle extreme hardship for this basic necessity. In this hamlet, the children learn early in their childhood what the daily cost of water is.
