VALLIKKUNNU: TV Ibrahim of IUML wins in Vallikkunnu constituency in the 2026 Kerala Assembly election
Positioned in Kerala's Malappuram district, the Vallikkunnu Assembly constituency holds the 42nd rank among the state's 140 legislative seats, contributing vitally to the Malappuram Lok Sabha expanse.
This general seat engages over 200,000 voters from a strong Muslim demographic, achieving turnouts around 74-76 per cent, and includes coastal panchayats near Tirurangadi, blending rural and semi-urban vibes in north Kerala. It reinforces IUML's commanding presence within the UDF alliance, amid spirited contests from rivals like INL.
In the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, IUML's Abdul Hameed Master prevailed with 71,823 votes at 47.43 per cent, defeating INL's A.P.
Abdul Wahab's 57,707 votes (38.11 per cent) by 14,116 votes from the electorate. The 2016 battle saw the same Master triumph with 59,720 votes (43.44 per cent), overcoming INL's Adv. O.K. Thangal's 47,110 votes (34.27 per cent) by 12,610 votes among nearly 190,000 voters, highlighting IUML's steady electoral muscle despite splinter challenges.
Heading into 2026, Vallikkunnu's story of IUML dominance since recent decades rides on community cohesion and local focuses like fisheries and education. With INL and
BJP nipping at heels alongside LDF efforts, this UDF bastion's evolving rivalries will echo in Kerala's political currents.
