In Tambaram, D. Sarathkumar of TVK secured a comfortable victory, polling 1,18,967 votes. He defeated DMK’s R.S. Kiruthika Devi by a margin of 35,621 votes. AIADMK’s C. Rajendran finished third with 61,991 votes, as the constituency delivered a clear mandate in favour of TVK.
The Tambaram constituency witnessed a high-stakes battle marked by the DMK fielding Dr R. S. Kiruthika Devi, an obstetrician and gynaecologist, who replaced the three-term veteran S. R. Raja in a significant move toward fresh leadership. She faced Chitlapakkam C. Rajendran, a seasoned AIADMK veteran and former MP with deep-rooted influence in the suburban belt. The race was further electrified by the entry of D.
Sarathkumar, a 34-year-old civil contractor representing the TVK, who emerged as a formidable challenger by mobilising the area’s massive youth and working-class electorate.

2021 election saw
S. R. Raja (DMK) secure a comfortable victory with
1,16,840 votes (46.93% vote share), defeating
T. K. M. Chinnayya (AIADMK), who polled
80,016 votes. The victory margin was
36,824 votes. In the
2016 election, the seat was won by
S. R. Raja (DMK), who polled
1,01,835 votes, defeating the AIADMK’s
C. Rajendran by
14,445 votes.
The voter turnout this year was
83.9%, a major jump from 59.92% in the 2021 elections.
Tambaram (Assembly Constituency No. 31), located in the Chengalpattu district, is a critical southern gateway to Chennai and one of the state's most populous urban segments. The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4.
