Shyampur election results 2026: BJP’s Dr Hiranmoy Chattopadhyaya defeats TMC’s Nadebasi Jana by 22,260 votes
Dr. Hiranmoy Chattopadhyaya (Hiraan) of the Bharatiya Janata Party defeated Nadebasi Jana of the All India Trinamool Congress in Shyampur, winning by a margin of 22,260 votes after all 18 rounds of counting.Shyampur in Howrah district is currently represented by Kalipada Mandal of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. In the 2021 election, he secured 1,14,804 votes, defeating BJP’s Tnusree Chakraborty, who polled 83,293 votes, giving him a winning margin of 31,511. Key issues are predominantly rural: recurrent riverine erosion and flooding along local channels, poor drainage leading to waterlogging, and demand for all‑weather roads connecting gram panchayats like Baneswarpur, Dingakhola, and Kamalpur to Uluberia and Howrah hubs. Agriculture and allied activities remain major livelihoods, so input costs, irrigation reliability, and market access for small farmers and sharecroppers are critical concerns, alongside better government health and school infrastructure in Shyampur‑I and Shyampur‑II blocks. A notable feature of Shyampur is the remarkable continuity of Kalipada Mandal, who has held the seat for TMC since 2001, turning it into one of the party’s longest‑running bastions in rural Howrah. The constituency falls under the Uluberia Lok Sabha seat, which TMC’s Sajda Ahmed retained in 2024, aligning assembly and parliamentary representation and reinforcing Trinamool’s organisational network in the area.
