Sankrail (SC) in Howrah district is currently represented by Priya Paul of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
Priya Paul of the Trinamool Congress defeats Barnali Dhali Naskar of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Sankrail, winning by a margin of 16,740 votes after all 22 rounds of counting. CPI(M)’s Samir Malick finished third.
She won the 2021 election with 111,888 votes (50.4per cent vote share), defeating BJP’s Probhakar Pandit’s 71,461 votes (32.4per cent), by a margin of 40,427 votes.
Key issues include waterlogging and drainage in low‑lying areas, road connectivity in GPs like Andul, Banpur‑I/II, Dakshin Sankrail, Dhulagari, and Sankrail, and piped drinking water supply. Demand for better health and education infrastructure, local employment, and welfare for SC communities amid rapid suburbanisation towards Kolkata is prominent.
Priya Paul succeeded Sital Kumar Sardar (TMC 2011–2016), building on the party’s hold since 2011 after decades of CPI(M) dominance (Anirban Hazra won 2006). Sankrail falls under the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency, won by TMC’s Rachana Banerjee in 2024 by 1,50,000+ votes.
