Pursurah (constituency no. 199) is a general-category seat in Hooghly district, falling under the Arambag Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency covers the Pursurah community development block along with several gram panchayats from Khanakul I and Arambagh community development blocks.
It is a predominantly rural seat with agriculture as the backbone of its economy, including potato and vegetable cultivation.
In 2021, BJP's Biman Ghosh won the seat, defeating TMC's candidate in what was one of the BJP's gains in this part of Hooghly district. In 2016, the TMC had held the seat. The TMC now fields Partha Hazari, a new candidate, in an effort to recapture the seat from the BJP. Biman Ghosh, the sitting MLA, will defend for the BJP. Congress has fielded Sk Habibar Rahaman, hoping to draw minority votes. The 2026 contest in Pursurah is particularly significant as it is one of the seats the TMC is actively looking to flip from BJP in Hooghly. Partha Hazari faces the challenge of defeating an incumbent whilst the BJP attempts to hold on to its 2021 gains in the district.
