NEW DELHI: Even as the BJP secured a wider advantage across the state, in Nanoor constituency it went to the Trinamool Congress, where Bidhan Chandra Majhi emerged victorious with 1,19,910 votes. He defeated BJP candidate Khokan Das by a margin of 8,122 votes after a closely contested battle. Das put up a strong fight, polling 1,11,788 votes, but ultimately finished second.
Nanoor is a Scheduled Caste Assembly constituency located in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. It is one of the seven Assembly segments that fall under the Bolpur (SC) Lok Sabha constituency.
At present, Bidhan Chandra Majhi of the
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA from Nanoor. He won the seat in the 2021 assembly election by securing 47.65% of the total votes polled.
He was followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tarakeswar Saha, who received 44.81% of the votes.
In the recently held assembly polls, Trinamool candidate Bidhan Majhi was challenged by Khokas Das of the BJP.
Earlier, the constituency was won by Shyamali Pradhan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) in 2016. In 2011, Gadadhar Hazra of AITC had secured victory in the seat.
The election history shows that Nanoor (SC) has seen changes in political representation over the years, reflecting competitive electoral dynamics and shifting voter preferences in the constituency.
