NEW DELHI: A man alleged to be the "accountant" for the Lawrence Bishnoi network in Canada was fatally shot in the lobby of a busy office building in Surrey's Newton neighbourhood Monday afternoon. The deceased went by the alias of 'Sam Kaneda'.Sources said that the role of pro-Khalistan shooters with Indian links was being investigated in the murder which the authorities believe was a targeted execution.Surrey police said they had responded to reports of gunfire at a complex housing several businesses. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man's body with multiple gunshot wounds.Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since taken over the case, noting that while the motive remains under investigation, the shooting appears to be a gang-related hit.Shortly after the killing, a Facebook post by Rohit Godara, a fugitive gangster, claimed responsibility for the murder. Godara identified the victim as a "close associate" and "main handler" for his rivals, claiming that he was involved in cricket match-fixing and illegal betting operations in Canada. The post issued a warning that "the list was ready" and that anyone assisting their enemies would be targeted Police have not officially confirmed the authenticity of the victim's identity.The incident raised concerns of international gang violence on Canadian soil.
